Last night there was flooding at Trafikplats Emausmotet in Västerås and during the night the Swedish Transport Administration also reported a lot of water at the passage under the railway on route 558 in Kolbäck.
Several basements are said to have also been flooded and trees are said to have blown down in some places, but no personal injuries are said to have occurred, reports P4 Västmanland.
– Between 8 pm yesterday and 8 am on Sunday morning, 33.8 millimeters of rain fell in Kolsva, 36.4 millimeters in Västerås and 50.3 millimeters in Sala. It shows our measuring stations at the locations in the county, says meteorologist Therese Fogman to SVT Nyheter Västmanland.
Warning for torrential rain
SMHI issued a yellow warning between Saturday at 18:00 and Sunday at 06:00, which included parts of Svealand.
– The warning is for torrential rain so that society can prepare and take measures if necessary and if possible. The warning means that you should be extra alert for flooding in viaducts and in basements, says Therese Fogman.
The yellow warning applied to large parts of the county earlier, but on Sunday it applies to certain parts of Västmanland.
– It applies to a corner of Västmanland – at the height of Västerås and away towards the Uppland border. There can be large amounts of rain, says Therese Fogman.
Calmer next week
The large amount of rain is due to temperature differences in different directions.
– When warm and cool air meet, areas of heavy rain form, says Therese Fogman.
What does the weather look like next week?
– It looks like it will calm down in the coming week. There may be occasional rain showers. But then it’s about one to two millimeters, says Therese Fogman.
