Dangerously high temperatures are still affecting parts of North America, Asia and southern Europe. In China, a new record has probably been set during the day on Sunday – at 52.2 degrees, several weather services report.

The listing is still preliminary.

The British Met Office writes on Twitter that several heat records in southern Europe are likely to be broken in the coming week.

During the day, for example, another heat wave is expected to move in over Italy. In Rome, temperatures could reach 40 degrees and even 43 degrees on Tuesday, which would break the heat record in the city set in August 2007.

The islands of Sicily and Sardinia can during the same period be affected by temperatures as high as 48 degrees, warns the European Space Agency (ESA).
