Continued attacks on Kharkiv – ten airstrikes on Sunday

The Russian invasion of Kharkiv began three weeks ago and airstrikes against the region and Ukraine continue.
During Sunday, several regions were forced into emergency power cuts as a result of the Russian attacks.
– The Kharkiv region continues to suffer from Russian airstrikes, ten of them have already been carried out today, writes the Ukrainian General Staff on Telegram.

Russia opened a new front in the war at the beginning of May when it chose to enter Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine. Among other things, the purpose was stated to be to create a buffer zone to the nearby Russian city of Belgorod, which was subjected to several attacks during the war.

During Sunday, several Russian airstrikes were directed at Kharkiv and several regions have suffered power outages following Russian attacks.

Clashes in several directions

A total of ten airstrikes are said to have been directed from the Russian side towards Kharkiv and battles have also occurred.

“There have been two combat clashes in the Kharkiv region. Enemy attacks in the areas around the villages of Liptsi and Staritsa were repulsed. The situation is under control,” writes the Ukrainian General Staff in an update.

The two villages are located between the country’s second largest city, Kharkiv, and the Russian border. The airstrikes are said to have been aimed at the village of Liptsi, among other things.

On Friday, at least three people were killed and several injured when a residential area in the city of Kharkiv was attacked. An apartment building caught fire and when the emergency services arrived, Russia struck again, says the region’s governor, Oleh Synehubov.

According to the General Staff, success has also been achieved in the region since Russia opened the new front. About a hundred Russian soldiers are said to have been killed, two Russian tanks and several other vehicles have been destroyed, as well as two ammunition depots.

Emergency power cuts in large parts of the country

At the same time, large parts of Ukraine suffered from emergency power cuts on Sunday as a result of Russian attacks, TT reports.

Russia has carried out several attacks on energy infrastructure and all but three regions of Ukraine have been affected by the blackouts following the Russian robot attacks on Saturday. At least 19 people are also said to have been injured in the attacks.

Both industries and households have been affected, according to the energy operator Ukrenergo. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has once again asked for increased support from the West in order to improve Ukrainian air defense.
