Construction scaffolding was at risk of collapsing after being hit by a drunk driver

At half past three on the night of Sunday, a car rammed a scaffolding and the facade of an apartment building on Råtorp in Karlstad

– Pure luck that no one was injured. The people who live in the apartment were away, says Andreas Carlson, secretary of the condominium association.

Great damages

However, there was extensive damage to scaffolding that had been erected around the facade and to the apartment on the ground level. There, parts of the wall were pushed in and furniture that stood along the wall was thrown several meters into the apartment:

– There is major damage that may have affected the construction. The wall has released from the base plate.

Scaffolding was at risk of collapsing

The strong wind meant that the scaffolding was in danger of collapsing over a busy road and a bus stop. At 10 o’clock, emergency services were able to secure and take down the scaffolding.

– That is the most important thing right now, says Andreas Carlson, secretary of the condominium association.

The driver of the car received minor injuries, was arrested on the spot and is now suspected of gross drunken driving, gross negligence in traffic, causing danger to another, minor drug offenses and contamination.
