Conspiracy site Infowars is for sale Trump relatives and progressive

Who will buy Infowars? This American conspiracy site, which notably helped bring Donald Trump to the White House in 2016, is for sale. The sums from this must be used to compensate the victims of its owner, the far-right polemicist Alex Jones, sentenced in 2022 to a record fine of more than a billion dollars. As Donald Trump prepares to return to the American presidency, opponents and supporters have expressed interest in the site.

Alex Jones made his fortune spreading lies about Internet for 15 years. In particular, he contributed to the harassment of families at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Connecticut, by claiming that the massacre of 26 peopleincluding around twenty children, in December 2012 was an invention.

The families won the defamation suit they brought against him. But to date, they have not received a cent in damages. Sentenced to pay them $1.5 billion, Alex Jones placed himself in personal bankruptcy in 2022 and then agreed to sell his fake news empire. He expressed his sadness, in tears, in a video.

But Donald Trump’s new victory in the presidential election could reshuffle the cards. “ Your reputation is excellent, I won’t let you down », told him Donald Trump less than a year before being elected for his first term, in 2016, at a time when few people believed in his chances.

His allies, in any case, have not forgotten him. Donald Trump’s friend and adviser, Roger Stone, sentenced to three years in prison as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, could buy Infowars and let Alex Jones maintain control, according to the Associated Press.

Conversely, progressive media owners have also expressed interest in purchasing the site, to transform Infowars into a tool to combat disinformation. The list of takeover candidates will be known on Wednesday November 13.
