Consoles May End Their Lifespan in 10 Years

Streaming a game over the cloud isn’t the ideal way to play most games, especially fast-paced FPS games. Currently, cloud gaming has not yet become widespread and is not ready. More than a decade has passed since the technology was first introduced in the mainline package. However, the cloud expanded dramatically. It has pushed all forms of gaming, from PC to the big three console families, there is some sort of cloud-based offering for game distribution and access.

Yoshi-P, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV and its expansions (and Final Fantasy XVI), recently said that he believes the cloud could replace all platforms and consoles over time.

The news came from Twitter user who translated an interview with Yoshi-P in Japanese genki came through.

Cloud gaming isn’t cheap, though. Web server costs are increasing day by day. We have even seen games with multiplayer systems being taken offline. Because its maintenance costs more than the value of the game itself. This is also a major reason why platform owners like Nintendo and Microsoft are removing games from their storefronts after years (the Wii U/3DS stores have been taken offline and the Xbox 360 store will be offline in June 2024).
