Considerably more expensive ice cream according to Ekonominyheterna’s mapping

Anyone who craves ice cream can dive deep into the pockets.
A new survey by Ekonominyheterna shows that certain ice cream prices have increased by up to 60 percent since the year 2000.
– It will be very expensive if you have to buy ice cream for the whole family, says Johanna Hållén, general secretary of Sweden’s Consumers.

Sun and heat have long been synonymous with ice cream. But the traditional load has become increasingly costly. This is shown by Ekonominyheterna’s new mapping of the “ice cream inflation”.

And even consumers have had difficulty getting used to the high prices.

– In my host, a Daimstrut still costs SEK 20, says Emma Thelander.

A few types of ice cream stand out

But 20 kroner for a cone is a thing of the past. Significant price increases are also visible for other types of ice cream. In terms of inflation, for example, a Snickers ice cream should cost SEK 17 – but today it costs SEK 28 in stores.

– We can see that there have been sharp increases in food and now we can see that there are some ice cream types that stand out both in relation to how much food prices have increased in general and how inflation has developed, says Johanna Hållén, secretary general of Sweden’s Consumers.

More people are expected to opt out of the ice cream

According to Sweden’s Consumers, more people will refrain from ice cream this summer if the prices are not reviewed.

– It becomes very expensive if you have to buy ice cream for the whole family, that goes without saying when an ice cream cone costs SEK 30. If you have three or four children who are going to get ice cream, it will be an expensive expense, says Johanna Hållén.

But high ice cream prices won’t stop everyone.

– I would say that my need for ice cream has increased, so I have probably started buying more ice cream even if it is more expensive, says Alba Mazzi Rönn.

Nor does Hans-Olof Sellman allow himself to be stopped by ice cream inflation.

Why do you think people keep buying ice cream?

– Because it’s good, he says and takes the last bite of his ice cream.

Neither GB nor Triumfglass want to appear for an interview. But in a comment, GB writes that the increased ice cream prices are due to their increased costs.
