Are you embarrassed about being single this Valentine’s Day? However, certain tips allow you to face it with more serenity. Explanations.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the pressure of being in a relationship can intensify for some single people. How then can we gain height? Bumble has thought about taking hearts by providing some very practical advice.

    Better protect your mental health

According to the site Bumble, which conducted a study on the subject with a sample of 14,300 Bumble members worldwide, almost half of those surveyed (49%) feel more embarrassed at the idea of be single on Valentine’s Day.

And for good reason: at this time of year, hearts and flowers bloom everywhere.

“Everywhere people look, they constantly see numerous items and advertisements promoting this event. Society makes Valentine’s Day the most romantic day of the year, so it’s no wonder people let themselves be carried away by this moment” says Dr. Caroline West, Bumble’s relationship and dating expert.

Adopt a “slower” and more thoughtful approach

To deal with this avalanche of love, the Bumble site advocates a more thoughtful approach to dating, favoring quality over quantity, thus helping everyone stay “sane“. In other words, on D-day:

    • By thinking about yourself… and giving yourself quality time. Half (56%) of the 26,849 Bumble members surveyed have “decided to take more time for themselves and focus on what makes them feel good; whether it is self-care, rejecting the injunctions of wellness and the quest for perfection or even ending a romantic or friendly relationship that is harmful to them“.
    • By “dating” better. Nearly 1 in 3 people (31%) practice “slow-dating”, a more considered approach which favors the quality rather than the quantity of encounters and this is particularly the case for women – a trend that Bumble called “Consider-date”.
    • By opening up emotionally to others (only if you want to meet someone). “Today, the veils are lifted, tongues are loosened and give way to authenticity and vulnerability,” explains Bumble. Moreover, according to a YouGov study carried out for Bumble in July 2023, for half of French people (52%), “uA healthy dating experience is defined by being honest with each other, whether it’s about sex, emotions, or mental health. This goes even further because more than a quarter (27%) of French people no longer want to date someone who is emotionally unavailable or who does not clearly express what they want..”

The main idea, ultimately? Rethink your approach”taking into account the state of one’s mental health in order to know what makes us feel good“, explains the dating site.
