Conscripts in Gothenburg received too little food at the beginning of their training, according to a report from the Service Council. At Älvsborg’s amphibious regiment, conscripts stated that they had lost six kilograms in six weeks.

– What seems to have happened in Gothenburg is that some type of agreement from an external supplier has not really been kept, says Alice Nilsson, chairman of the Duty Council, to Göteborgs-Posten.

She says that the tasks are serious and that health must be preserved during the training. But she also points out that it is not only food that affects the weight of conscripts at the beginning of their training.

– It can be stress and other things that play a role and then it is normal to lose weight, but maybe not that much, says Alice Nilsson.

The battalion’s occupational health care, defense health, must also have expressed concern about the weight of the conscripts, according to the Duty Agency. That many have lost so much weight is unusual, according to Nilsson.

– Problems with suppliers and food have existed in the past, what stands out this year is how big the consequences have been and it has not been this serious in the two regiments before, so of course it worries us.

Patrik Mattsson, battalion commander for the training battalion at Amf 4, does not want to tell GP if there are problems with procurement from food suppliers. Like Alice Nilsson, he points out that the weight loss can be due to several factors.
