On Sunday evening, Conquer Gaming won the Finnish championship of the CS:GO video game by defeating Exen Esports in the final match of the eSM league.
Jere “Elfern” Nissin the team he led won the regular season of the league and also went to the decisive playoffs of the championship as the biggest advance favorite. The team withstood the pressure and won both the semi-final against Kuusamo.gg and the final directly in two maps.
In the final match, Conquer grabbed the lead by winning Exen’s chosen opening map, Ancient, 16-9.
The second map, Conquer’s chosen Inferno, started on the terrorist side for Nissi’s team, but Conquer still managed to grab a convincing 12-3 halftime lead. Exen won the second pistol round, but Top “LYNX” Shop returned his team to a winning position. The match was finally broken after Conquer took the second map victory with a score of 16-6.
In addition to the in-game leader Nissi, the champion team plays in the ranks Niko “chocolate” Omelet, Joel “jelo” Lentonen, An advantage “eDi” Astikainen and Topi “LYNXi” Kauppi. The eSM titles are the first in their career for the team’s players.
In the league’s playoffs, Conquer’s players were able to erase their disappointment from the previous 2021 eSM tournament. At that time, Nissi and Munukka in the ranks of Nyyrikki Esports lost to HAVU Gaming in the final of the tournament, Lentonen was left in the semi-finals with SJ, and Astikainen and Kauppi experienced the same fate in hREDS’ shirt.
This year, the reigning champion HAVU Gaming did not participate in the eSM competitions organized in league format for the first time. The reason given by the organization was disappointment with the league’s arrangements.
The cooperation agreement between the Finnish Electronic Sports Association, which awards the eSM title, and TBZ Esports, which was responsible for the operation of the league, was terminated in November in the middle of the league season. SEOUL organized the end of the league season on its own and the series is not getting a continuation, as the association has already said that the eSM competitions of the CS:GO game will return to tournament format this year.
