Freelancer Conor McGregor has to pay for his actions, Reuters tells.
Rape victim Nikita Hand said McGregor raped her in a hotel in Dublin in December 2018.
The jury decided on Friday in a civil trial in the Supreme Court of Ireland that the 36-year-old McGregor is guilty of rape and he has to pay Hand almost 250,000 euros in damages.
McGregor denied the accusation and said that he had sex with full consent. McGregor also denied that he used violence against the woman.
McGregor said on his X account about the decision to appeal.
Hand spoke outside the trial and told that he was overwhelmed by the support he received.
– I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how scared you are, speak up, he said.
McGregor is a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion.
