The official CONMEBOL Twitter account made a human ‘error’ by publishing hours later deleting a montage in which the Ecuadorian player Gonzalo Plata is seen at the controls of a vehicle. Together with the striker they accompany him Diego Godin, Arturo Vidal, James Rodriguez and Gianluca Lapadula.
The montage itself wanted to refer to the trip that Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador must travel to obtain one of the two seats that give the direct ticket to the Qatar World Cup 2022. However, the “controversy” was served by having the extreme as the driver of the car and that is that the Real Valladolid player had a car accident when he crashed his car on December 8 while drunk.
The facts marked that the player collided with a taxi to later knock down a traffic light and end up overturned on a sidewalk. The taxi in question had a female passenger on board and only the driver suffered minor injuries. That is why as soon as the photo was uploaded, the social network was filled with memes and ridicule about the fact in question. CONMEBOL withdrew the tweet within hours, but many Internet users had already echoed the blunder.
Ecuador fights for a dream
Despite this error, Gonzalo Plata is one of the leaders of the tricolor that has a foot and a half in the World Cup next November. Ecuador is third in the group, behind Argentina and Brazil, three points above Uruguay and four above Peru, a team that marks the playoff zone. By winning Paraguay tomorrow, the ‘tri’ would be mathematically classified for the World Cup. From Brazil 2015 the Ecuadorian team did not access an edition, having been before in Korea and Japan 2002 and Germany 2006.
