CONGRATULATIONS! Henrik Zetterberg turns 43 – and reveals the best Tre Kronor memory of his career: “There is nothing like it”

Henrik Zetterberg’s career was completely unparalleled.
But one memory stands out for him.
When he points out the best moments of his career, he gives every Swede goosebumps.

When Henrik Zetterberg announced that his career was over, it was a day of mourning in Detroit. Few players have ever been so appreciated in the hockey-crazy city of the United States, and few players have also been so incredibly appreciated for their role as team captain and human being.

Senseless career

Henrik Zetterberg was not only an outstanding team captain, he was an absolutely incredible player as well. “Zäta” won the Stanley Cup with his Red Wings in 2008, and of course it was he who scored the decisive goal in the sixth final game of the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Zetterberg was awarded one of hockey’s absolute finest awards, the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is awarded annually to the most valuable player in the playoffs.

Zetterberg remains a celebrated icon in Detroit, and every time he’s in attendance during a Red Wings game, and shown on the jumbotron, there’s a deafening cheer. But it is not only in the Red Wings that he made an impression. Zetterberg often lined up for Tre Kronor, and he is one of the few players who made it into the Triple Gold Club, having won the Stanley Cup, World Cup gold, and the Olympics.

Points out the best memory

And when Henrik Zetterberg himself gets to decide from his absolute best memory during the incomparable Tre Kronor career, it is one that stands out from the crowd. It is one of Swedish ice hockey’s most powerful moments, the time during the World Cup 2006, when Tre Kronor was down 1-5 against rival Finland. No one believed in a pick-up, but Sweden scored five (!) straight goals, and won the match with a slightly improbable 6-5.

And when Henrik Zetterberg thinks back, it is by far his strongest memory in his entire career.

– It is perhaps my single best memory from the national team. Nothing like this happened during my entire career, Zetterberg told Finnish Iltalehti.

– I have heard that it is a national trauma in Finland.

Feel free to SHARE the article to congratulate one of Swedish hockey’s greats on his birthday! You are a hero, Zäta!
