Through 163 objects, the exhibition “The part of the shadow” at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac reveals the richness of the statuary, masks and other common objects of the peoples of the southwestern region of the Congo .

Do you know Bandundu? It is one of the former provinces of the current Democratic Republic of Congo, a vast territory which includes the current provinces of Kwango, Kwilu, Mai-Ndombe and Kinshasa.

Through 163 objects which date mainly from the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, here is an exhibition which reveals the great diversity of statuary, masks and everyday objects of the different peoples settled in this territory, and which also tells the rites and history.

The exhibition “The part of the shadow – sculptures from the south-west of the Congo” can be visited in Paris until April 10, 2022, at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac.
