Congo-Kinshasa is investigating the circumstances surrounding a flu-like illness that has led to several deaths in recent weeks, according to the country’s health minister Roger Kamba.

The authorities have so far confirmed just over 70 deaths. Of the 27 people who died in hospital, ten died due to missing blood transfusions and 17 as a result of breathing problems, according to the minister.

Symptoms include fever, headache and anemia.

Epidemiological experts are in Kwango province to investigate the disease.
