That’s what some people are wondering after a new road sign showed up on a Simcoe street this week.
The new sign on Crescent Boulevard at the T-intersection with Queensway East indicates that drivers are prohibited from turning right or left.
“Drivers, please note that signs were installed this week which restrict right and left hand turns at the intersection of Crescent Boulevard and Queensway in Simcoe,” said a social media post by Norfolk County. “The restrictions have been put in place to address safety concerns at this intersection.”
The new signs have basically made the street a dead end.
The county’s social media post drew plenty of comments with some seeing the humor in the situation, others not so much.
“So can’t turn left, can’t turn right, can’t go straight, yet there’s still a two way street with stop sign and white line showing where drivers should stop before proceeding into the roadway…..Got it!, ” said a social media post by David Piano (@ONwxchaser).
Even Norfolk County Councilor Kim Huffman weighed in. “Hmmmm, me thinks there needs some further explanation,” she posted on Twitter.
“Had to check to be sure this post wasn’t an old one from April 1st,” wrote Deborah Scheeringa (@deborthefarmer).
“Huh. So you’re at the stop sign, can’t turn left or right. Is this a joke? It’s a joke right?” posted CDavis (@CDavis2448).
Norfolk County provided an update on social media on Thursday saying the signs would be removed on Friday. “Wow, Norfolk County, we see there is a lot of passion for this project. Thanks to all of you for weighing in. As a background, the rationale for the signage is to ensure safety for drivers and pedestrians at this intersection that has poor sightlines. We agree it could be confusing, so until the second stage of the project can be completed, operations staff will be removing the signs tomorrow.”
