During the talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine, three proposals have been submitted – a break in the attacks on energy infrastructure, a break in the attacks in the Black Sea and a complete ceasefire in the air, on the ground and at sea.
Ukraine and the United States agreed on a complete ceasefire on March 11. Russia has made far -reaching demands to be able to agree on such – that Ukraine completely ceases with the mobilization of soldiers, ends up to equip its defense force and that military support for Ukraine ends.
On March 18, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed on a 30 -day break in the attacks on Russia’s and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, ie a thumb of what Ukraine and the United States agreed.
Russia has since claimed that the break in practice came into force then.
The United States said they agreed to stop the attacks against “energy and infrastructure”, while Russia said the agreement covered “energy infrastructure”.
Ukraine agreed to a break in the attacks, but has said that Russia continued to attack the country’s energy sector after March 18. Russia has accused Ukraine for the same thing, which the Ukrainians have denied.
On March 25, the White House stated that the parties agreed to take measures to “implement the agreement to ban attacks on energy plants in Russia and Ukraine”.
Whether the break is currently unclear. Both sides accused each other at the latest on Friday of breaking against the agreement.
Black Sea
On March 24, Russia and the United States met in Saudi Arabia. They agreed on a break in the attacks in the Black Sea. But the Russian and American description of the agreement differed – again.
The United States wrote in a statement that it was promised to help Russia with the following: access to the world market for agricultural products and fertilizers, reduced maritime insurance costs and Russia’s access to ports and payment systems for such transactions.
Russia wrote that the break in the Black Sea is conditional, which the Americans did not. According to them, it can come into force only after the sanctions against a large Russian bank, food and artificial fertilizers and Russian vessels are lifted. The bank, believes Russia, must once again have access to the international payment system SWIFT.
It is therefore unclear when and if the break will take effect.
