Romania’s Ana Barbosu won the bronze medal in the women’s balance beam permanto final after fast-paced events.
There was no shortage of events in the women’s balance beam final at the Paris Olympics on Monday, but the rounds have only increased in recent days.
The final ended in Brazil Rebecca Andrade to the party the superstar of the United States By Simone Biles remaining on silver, but the fate of the bronze medal is still being twisted.
Already in the final, the results changed. Romanian Ana Barbosu was about to get bronze, but the US insisted Jordan Chiles score review, after which the jury increased the American’s score to 13.766.
He got 0.1 points more, which also changed the order: Chiles rose from fifth place to bronze, and Barbosu dropped to fourth.
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation did not digest the decision, but appealed to the International Court of Appeal for Sports (CAS). The CAS gave its verdict on Saturday: in its opinion, the jury acted incorrectly and should not have even taken the case into consideration, as the appeal period had expired.
According to International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) rules, the time to file an appeal is one minute, while the US appeal was filed after one minute and four seconds.
However, CAS left the decision to change the medalists to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). The FIG reset Chiles’ scores to their originals, which put the Romanian back in bronze.
Chiles has to return his medal
The FIG, on the other hand, left the decision on returning the medal to the International Olympic Committee, which announced early on Sunday that Chiles will have to return his medal. Chiles has gold in the team competition from Paris and silver in the same competition from Tokyo.
Chiles has received a lot of hate mail on social media. He ended up withdrawing from social media.
– I’m leaving social media for my mental health, he updated in the stories section of Instagram.
The United States Gymnastics Federation strongly condemned the events and stood in support of its athlete.
Chiles has also received support from her teammates, including superstar Biles and six-time Olympic medalist From Sunisa Lee. Lee also questioned the judges’ part.
– Everyone only talks about the athlete, but what about the judges? This is gross, totally unacceptable, Lee roared.
The United States Olympic Committee has said it will appeal the decision.
