(Finance) – “The economic maneuver is reasonable. We have a huge public debt and with the increase in rates the interest payments increase and in this way the possibility of carrying out interventions is killed. In this maneuver the cutting of the wedge which but it is not structural. And this could be done with a redevelopment of public spending. The Pnrr is very important and must be spent well and quickly on those interventions that create GDP points for the country”. That’s what he said Carlo Bonomi, president of Confindustria, at the meeting of industrialists from the province of Vicenza, in Arzignano.
“Germany – he continued Bonomi – has implemented a policy to stimulate investment and yet Italy cannot afford it. I want to underline to the government that there must be an obsession to stimulate investment. What worries me most is the issue of investments. We must necessarily invest to remain competitive”, added Bonomi, recalling that “since 2021, with each passing quarter, investments have significantly reduced, also due to various international factors”.
“The country is used to thinking about emergencies but we cannot continue to ask entrepreneurs to perform miracles – said the president of Confindustria reflecting on international emergencies –. We need to reflect, history asks us to do so. Fifty years ago there was the invasion of Israel by Egypt and Syria and all the countries raised oil prices; with austerity, businesses suffered a huge blow, from there we started using gas and nuclear power. I believe today is the time to seriously rethink nuclear power and energy strategy. What will those countries that supported Syria and Egypt do and are they important for us? What if Algeria takes a strong stand? These are reflections that the country and Europe must make. Let’s not be caught unprepared for possible emergencies again.”
