Frida Karlsson stands over the World Cup in Davos this weekend.
Now comes new news about the cross-country star, who may be forced to cancel all competitions this year, including the Tour de Ski.
– She’s in good physical shape – then it’s really sad not to be able to participate. It’s clear she’ll lose weight then, says personal trainer Per Nilsson in Expressen’s podcast Vallaboden.
The situation is quite serious for our big long-distance star Frida Karlsson25. The foot injury she suffered shortly before the season still bothers her and so far there have been only three races in the World Cup. Admittedly, she won outright in Ruka and came fourth in the 10 km freestyle in Lillehammer. But now she is canceling her participation in Davos.
Frida Karlsson’s difficult choice before the WC
Karlsson was actually supposed to be in Sunday’s skiathlon in Lillehammer, but she had to skip it because of the injuries. Her personal trainer Per Nilsson recently guested on Expressen’s podcast Vallaboden and he said then that she is disturbed by her injury when she pushes hard at the competitions and that she is facing a crossroads now. If she wants to be healthy and not feel any pain at the WC, she needs to compete and train a little less right now.

Last Saturday, Frida and her team had a meeting where they planned for the future. After the meeting, it was clear that Karlsson would stand over Davos. She has now gone home to Östersund and is in close contact with her physio Marcus Bystedt.
– The Mungis were probably not up to speed at that meeting. But we discussed a couple of different ways forward in the long term towards the WC. We have to try our hand at it. She likes to compete. She’s in good physical shape – then it’s a bummer not to be able to join. It is clear that she will be less then, says Nilsson.
Karlsson may miss the Tour de Ski
The week before Christmas, Karlsson is going home to Sollefteå, her hometown, to train on snow again with Per Nilsson. However, she skips the high-altitude camp in the Alps that she was actually going to.
– No. Must be able to ski a lot at altitude. And Frida can’t do that at the moment, he says.

On December 28, the Tour de Ski begins. But Frida Karlsson might not even be able to join then. Everything is very uncertain right now. It may happen that she cancels all competitions this year and bets on a comeback at the World Cup in the French mountain resort of Les Rousses, which runs from January 17-19.
– Given that she got sensations after only one race the first weekend and two the second, it’s probably something to think about. Therefore, seven rather tough races during the tour feel like a start there is in the risk zone. But that is a later decision, says Per Nilsson.
We are all keeping our fingers crossed that Frida Karlsson gets healthy and injury-free as soon as possible. There are many of us who cheer her on and hope she can ride the Tour de Ski this Christmas.
