Concern in Mexico over Trump’s campaign promise on mass deportation: “Not ready”

Migration ranks as one of the most important issues in the US election. It is unclear how a mass deportation would take place, and who would be covered.

But presidential candidate Donald Trump has promised that it will be the biggest in the country’s history if he is elected president.

In the Mexican city of Tijuana, a center has been established for people who have been deported from across the border.

Priscilla Rivas, who works to receive and help people who are forced to leave the neighboring country, sees with concern what consequences a mass deportation could lead to.

– Imagine being removed from everything you’ve ever known and placed on “Mars”. What are you going to do and how are you going to survive, she tells SVT.

Javier Salaza was deported from the United States ten years ago after carrying out a robbery. Today he makes art at the wall against the USA under the name “deported artist”.

– Mexico is not ready. As it stands right now, all the refugee camps here in Tijuana are packed. Nothing comes from the government, he says.
