Concern grows in Sápmi after the chaos in the Norwegian government

Last week it was announced that Sandra Borch, Minister for Research and Higher Education in Norway, is resigning.

This after revelations that she copied parts of her master’s thesis.

She became just one in a series of ministers who have been replaced in the Norwegian government since Jonas Gahr Støre became prime minister in the fall of 2021.

“Facing big challenging questions”

The president of the Sámi Parliament, Silje Karine Muotka, is now worried that the many ministerial changes will have consequences for Sámi issues.

– We are facing big and challenging Sami issues, and the many ministerial changes also affect these, she says NRK Sápmi.

She is worried that the frequent changes of the political leadership in the ministries will lead to the administration and the professionals in the ministry gaining more influence.

She also points out that there is still no solution to the Fosen case, which takes energy and time.

– The cooperation with the government has been demanding and will continue to be so, she says.
