Concern for Elvira Öberg, who has a cold and cannot train before the WC

Elvira Öberg has not started training for the WC.
With three weeks to go until the championship, there are some concerns about the star’s physical status.

– The first priority is that she must be healthy. Priority two is to get started with good training, says national team captain Johannes Lukas to Expressen.

The biathlon ladies won the relay in Antholz on Sunday and Hanna Öberg ran the final stretch and finished ahead of Norway. Her little sister Elvira Öberg is usually the one who runs the closing part, but she has come down with a cold.

Elvira Öberg missed the WC general rep

Elvira’s illness kept her away from the entire competition weekend in Italy. It was also the general rep, the last World Cup competitions, before the World Cup, which starts in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, on February 12.

Sadly, the 25-year-old is still not in training. This is confirmed by the national team captain John Luke for Expressen.
– She still lives down there (at low altitude). She will also make it forward and get well. Then she starts training down there too. Then we’ll see how it feels, how we step up. I don’t think she will get up here at 1,600 meters. It feels like a big jump. There are different villages nearby at 1,200 and 1,400 meters, I have called around to several hotels and checked, he says.

Elvira is one of the early favourites

Now Elvira is fighting against the clock to get back to the fine form she had during the season. Despite missing the World Cup weekend, she is still third in the overall standings. Now it’s time to load up for the championship, where she is actually one of the favorites to win a medal. Johannes Lukas is now trying to find good accommodation for her that is adapted to her current physical status.
– Yes, I think the first priority is that she must be healthy. Priority two is to get started with good training. And then we can talk about height afterwards, he says.

Hanna Öberg is optimistic that her sister will be able to get healthy and in good shape before the championship begins. Despite the cold, Elvira is happy and ready for what’s to come.
– I have spoken to her and I know that things are going in the right direction, that she is feeling a little better. And I think she has a very good foundation to stand on, and it’s important to keep calm about it. And there is still plenty of time to make sure to get fully healthy, and then start training, she says.
