Community discusses new rune grind, is “disgusting”

With patch 1.10.0, the new rune progression system came to the global servers of Throne and Liberty. Although the developers have mitigated some points of criticism compared to the Korean version, the runes, even in their current form, are not well received by many players.

What is behind the runes? The colored gemstones, which are available in various rarities and variants, can be used to improve the equipment of the heroes from Throne and Liberty. To do this, you have to unlock rune slots via the Sollant investment and make sure that the type of socket fits your bling.

You can use the runes to optimize your attack power, stability and support abilities. You farm runes through activities such as the co-op dungeon dimensional test, world bosses, certain events and weekly co-op dungeon missions. You can find out more details in our Runes Explained Guide.

If you want to use the best possible runes, you will have to plan many more hours in Throne and Liberty:

No Pay2Win, but very time-consuming

How does the community rate the system? When the runes were introduced in the Korean version of Throne and Liberty in August 2024, the system had clear Pay2Win elements. However, Amazon Games has removed this for the global version of the MMORPG. But the new version of the runes has also received a lot of criticism.

Ayio34’s post on Reddit sparked a lively discussion. His conclusion: “Farming rune levels is disgusting.” In his opinion, it’s just frustrating if you invest several hours only to get another level for a rune at the end.

In a second post on Reddit by Ecool272, it is discussed that the grind is only so intense because of the high level of difficulty of the dungeon content. The normal level 50 dungeons had already driven people out of the game. The more difficult T2 dungeons and dimensional trials only exacerbate this.

Here are some more voices from the community:

  • PrimordialTimelord agrees on Reddit: “What a ridiculous grind.”
  • linkerko3 criticizes how hard it is to farm runes with random groups (via Reddit): “This update honestly made me quit the game. I had a lot of fun, and fun is why I play games, and this isn’t fun anymore.”
  • Lurking_Poster writes in his post on Reddit: “I just wanted to point out that rune farming is a min/max area. It’s intended to be a huge grind for the top 1 percent of players. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep up reasonably well without them!”
  • Idebenn is annoyed (via Reddit): “I find the content more unpleasant than funny. The game mechanics are unbearable and there is a high proportion of chance. The people in the groups are also often obnoxious, and whenever something goes wrong, the blaming and kicking starts.”
  • Allekzp fears on Reddit: “Runes will exclude people from future content, parties, guilds, etc. will start looking for people with high-level best-in-slot runes and high gear stats. Equipment values that can only be achieved with high-level runes.”
