DECEMBER

SIMCOE LITTLE THEATER AUDITIONS: Simcoe Little Theater will be holding auditions for the production of Race Day. Auditions held Dec. 8, 6:30 – 9 pm The play will run May 4- 14, 2023 at the Simcoe Little Theatre. Roles are for seven adults and one young adult. Scheduled audition times preferred; local actors can call or text Tony Proracki at 226-931-5789 or email [email protected]. Potential actors are asked to attend prepared with a short piece of music to sing with either piano, accompaniment, tracks or unaccompanied.

SANTA RUN-WALK: Santa’s Escape from Tillsonburg is a 2-km walk or 5-km run on Saturday, Dec. 10 on the Trans Canada Trail, starting and finishing at New Road/Zenda Line (Five Points), 1.5 km east of Tillsonburg. The fun-run entry fee is a donation of two non-perishable items to support the Helping Hand Food Bank. Donations of any size will be gratefully accepted. Dress up in festive costumes, wear a Santa or elf hat, red, white or green clothing, or Christmas decorations.

OXFORD COLLEGIUM SINGERS: Oxford Collegium Singers, a non-profit choral group, is excited to announce a Christmas performance of Handel’s Messiah on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, 7:30-10 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church, 15 Vansittart Ave, Woodstock. FISH AND CHIPS: Available at the Waterford Legion on Dec. 9. Eat-in or take-out. Sales at 4:30 pm in person. Cost is $11.50 for one piece of fish and $16 for two pieces of fish. Kids’ rate is $7.

CHRISTMAS AT WOODHOUSE: Featuring award-winning singer/songwriter and author Tia McGraff will be held Dec. 10 at 2 pm at Woodhouse United Church, 2164 Highway 24 South, Simcoe. Tickets are $25 each and include refreshments. Tickets are available by calling Lisa Jo Malcomson at 519-428-2827.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLES: Held at the Teeterville Legion on Saturday, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17. Raffles start at 7 pm Chance to win $25 gift certificate for Vanessa Meats. Everyone welcome. GIFT OF GRACE: Grace Family Bible Fellowship, 6 James St., Courtland, is holding its inaugural Gift of Grace event on Dec. 10 from 1 to 3 pm Open to parents, grandparents and children. Adults are free to pick up a couple of extra gifts for their children. And children have the opportunity to get a gift for their mom/dad. Volunteers will be on hand to wrap the gifts from the children for them. Free event. Light refreshments will be served.

TORONTO NORTHERN LIGHTS: Brantford Symphony Orchestra presents Christmas with the Toronto Northern Lights at the Sanderson Center on December 10 at 7:30 pm Featuring the Toronto Northern Lights men’s chorus. FOOD DRIVE: Members of the Port Rowan Fire Station will be in front of WF Clover Farm supermarket in Port Rowan on Dec. 10-11, and 17-18 from 10 am to 4 pm to collect food for the local food bank.

JARVIS LIGHT UP 2022: The Light Up Tour takes place Dec. 13 to Jan. 1. On Dec. 16, the tour’s grand finale fireworks display will begin at 5 pm at Jarvis Lions Park. (See the Jarvis Light Up Facebook page for more info.)

CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD: A talk featuring Christmas celebrations around the world and how our early ancestors brought their traditions with them when they immigrated to Canada will be held Dec. 13 at 6 pm at the Cayuga Library + Heritage Centre, located at 19 Talbot Street West. Many of the traditions and celebrations we enjoy in Canada come from French, English, Irish, Scottish, German, Norwegian and Ukrainian influences. MAIL ORDER CHRISTMAS: This program features afternoon tea followed by a talk on the history of the mail-order catalog on Dec. 14 at 1 pm at the Cayuga Library + Heritage Centre, located at 19 Talbot Street West. Attendees can discover how, in the late 19th century, large department stores introduced mail-order operations to extend their markets beyond their stores and into smaller cities and rural areas and how this trend changed the shopping habits of Canadians. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: The Simcoe & District Horticultural Society will be welcoming Dave Holmes at its Dec 14 meeting at 7:30 pm at the Junior Farmers building at the Simcoe fairgrounds. He will do a presentation on the Carolinian trees in Norfolk County. He is a certified forester. Everyone welcome. Admission is free. There will be door prizes, a light lunch and refreshments. QUIZ NIGHT: Waterford Legion Pub Quiz Night will be held Dec. 16 at 7 pm in the legion’s clubroom.

SANTA CLAUS PARADE: The Waterford Lions are organizing the town’s second annual Santa Claus Parade to take place Dec. 17 at 6:30 pm Organizers will be in the downtown park from 3 pm onwards with refreshments and more. The Lions members will also be accepting food bank donations in the parkette next to the lit up Christmas tree.

WINGS AND THINGS: At Waterford Legion on Dec. 30. Serving at 5 pm Hall opens at 4:45 pm (no phone orders). Eat-in or take-out. Wings $12, fries $4 and onion wings $5. Bring your own bag for takeout. Karaoke will be held at the same night from 7-10 pm Music by JCS.

NEW YEAR’S DANCE: Waterford Legion New Year’s Eve Dance, Dec. 31 from 9 pm to 1 am Cost is $25 per person. There is a limit of 100 tickets available at the legion bar. Music by Heckle The Band. Serving roast beef on a bun.

NEEDLE ARTS GUILD: Norfolk’s Own Needle Arts Guild meets on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings at the Waterford United Church, 135 Main St. S., Waterford from 7 pm to 9 pm The group also meets every Monday at the church from 10 am to 3:30 pm If you are a stitcher or would like to learn new techniques, please join them. OPEN JAM: Everyone is welcome to bring an instrument or just come out and listen to the music at the open jam event held the last Saturday of each month at the Teeterville Legion. Free event.

PICKLEBALL: Norfolk County recreation department is offering pickleball in Port Dover and Delhi. Sessions are Mondays and Tuesdays at the Port Dover Community Center and Thursdays at Delhi District Secondary School. Cost is $5 per player. For more information and to register go to bit.ly/3rVUHop.

INDOOR WALKS: Supervised indoor walking sessions are being held for those ages 14 and older on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Simcoe Recreation Centre. Organizers encourage people to bring their own ankle/hand weights and distance trackers. Participants need to wear comfortable non-slip running shoes and bring a mask.
