JUNE

PUB QUIZ: Waterford Legion will hold Pub Quiz Night on June 17 at 7 pm in the clubroom. Test your knowledge.

LEGION BOTTLE DRIVE: Tillsonburg Legion is having a bottle drive June 17-19 and June 24-26. Drop off bottles or cans at 16 Durham Street, 9-5 am daily. Call 519-842-5281 for more information.

NORFOLK COMMUNITY DAY: A variety of activities are planned for June 18 to mark the inaugural Norfolk Community Day. Events include free swimming, fire hall tours, music and more. Visit the Norfolk County website at https://www.norfolkcounty.ca/living/norfolk-community-day/ for more details.

CHICKEN BBQ: Waterford Legion Father’s Day Chicken BBQ will be held June 19. Serving at 5:30 pm Cost is $16. Special draws for men only.

JOB FAIR: A multi-sector job fair will be held on June 22 from 1 to 6 pm at the Aud located at the Simcoe fairgrounds at 172 South Drive, Simcoe. Bring your resume and apply to jobs, make connections and market your skills, network with human resources and management and connect with employment consultants and job developers. Presented in collaboration with Fanshawe Community Career & Employment Services and Norfolk County’s Tourism and Economic Development Department.

ROAST BEEF DINNER: Simcoe Legion will be serving a roast beef dinner in the Memorial Hall, 200 West, Street, Simcoe on Wednesday, June 22 from 4:30 to 7 pm Cost is $15 per person.

JAMBOREE & DANCE: Friday, June 24 at Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153 from 6 pm to 10 pm $5 Admission at door. Everyone welcome. For more information call 519-842-5281.

FREE CONCERT: Waterford United Church, 135 Main Street, is hosting a free concert on Friday, June 24 at 7:30 pm featuring Maestro Angus Sinclair, renowned organist/pianist, and Autumn Debassige, First Nations vocalist. A strawberry social will follow. Strawberry shortcake dessert is $5. Proceeds will offset the cost of instrument maintenance.

WINGS AND THINGS: Waterford Legion will be serving wings and things on June 24, serving at 5 pm Orders can be taken at 3 pm for eat-in or take-out. Cost is $10 for wings, $4 for fries and $5 for onion wings. Karaoke with music by JCS runs from 7 to 10 pm

YARD SALE: The Kinette Club of Simcoe is having a yard sale on Saturday, June 25 from 8 am to 4 pm at 36 Park Road in Simcoe (Access Mechanical). Lots of great items for sale. All proceeds to community service projects. Rain date: Saturday, Sept. 24; same time, same place.

ART SALE: Fundraiser for Ukraine Art Sale is being held Saturday, June 25 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at Port Dover Library. This sale is being sponsored by the Artist Workshop, Port Dover, and will feature original works donated by members, as well as other local artists. All proceeds will go to UNHCR, which is doing work on behalf of Ukrainian refugees. Cash only.

OPEN JAM NIGHT: Held the last Saturday of every month at the Teeterville Legion. Next event is June 25, starting at 3 pm Everyone is welcome to bring an instrument or just come out and listen to the music. Legion is located at 3890 Teeterville Road, Teeterville. SENIOR CENTER JEWELRY SALE: The Tillsonburg Senior Center is hosting a jewelry and accessories sale on Saturday, June 25, 9 am to 12 noon. Gently-used, good quality purses, shoes, belts, jewelry, hats, gloves and other accessories, all priced at $2 each. No admission charge, but you must wear a mask in order to shop. Proceeds support programs and activities at the Senior Center, 45 Hardy Ave. on the north side of the Tillsonburg Community Centre.

SENIOR CENTER SUMMER BAZAAR: The Tillsonburg Senior Center Crafters welcome you to a summer craft bazaar on Saturday, June 25, 9 am to 12 noon. Shop beautiful hand-made items such as quilts, household items, baby sweaters and much, much more, along with great Christmas-themed items. Free admission. Masks required. Located at 45 Hardy Ave. on the north side of the Tillsonburg Community Centre. All proceeds support ongoing programs at the senior centre.

JULY

DECORATION DAY: Decoration Day for Forestville Cemeteries will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, 638 Charlotteville Road 1, Forestville, on Sunday, July 17 at 2 pm Bring your lawn chair and umbrella. Rain or shine. Everyone welcome.

CLASSICAL PIANO RECITAL: Simcoe-born award-winning pianist Bryn Blackwood will perform at the Sanderson Center in Brantford on Sunday, July 17 at 7 pm His program will include works by Scriabin and Brahms, among others. Blackwood has just completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts at U of T, and will begin on a solo performance tour of Canada’s East Coast in November. Don’t miss this chance to hear one of the country’s brightest lights perform close to home. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at sandersoncentre.ca. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Peace Lutheran Church, 60 Young St., Tillsonburg, will host a Vacation Bible School titled Rainforest Explorers July 18 to 22, 9 am to 12 noon. Children ages four to 12 are invited to attend. There will be Bible stories, music, crafts, games and snacks. ONGOING

PICKLEBALL: Norfolk County recreation department is offering pickleball in Port Dover and Delhi. Sessions are Mondays and Tuesdays at the Port Dover Community Center and Thursdays at Delhi District Secondary School. Cost is $5 per player. For more information and to register go to bit.ly/3rVUHop.

INDOOR WALKS: Supervised indoor walking sessions are being held for those ages 14 and older on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Simcoe Recreation Centre. Organizers encourage people to bring their own ankle/hand weights and distance trackers. Participants need to wear comfortable non-slip running shoes and bring a mask. Pre-registration is required by going to bit.ly/3tnm7nQ .
