JUNE

TAG DAY: On June 23, the Waterford Volunteer Branch of the Norfolk General Hospital and Nursing home is having its tag day. Please give generously to the volunteers in their blue vests, who will be at Waterford Foodland, Waterford Tim Hortons and the Waterford Post Office.

TOUR OF GARDENS: Tillsonburg Horticultural Society’s Garden Artistry 2023 is Saturday, June 24, from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine. Visit, explore and enjoy local gardens and artists (with a quilters’ surprise). Tickets $15 available at Station Arts Centre, Tillsonburg Garden Gate and Annandale National Historic Site.

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL: The Invasion of the Dragons returns to Shadow Lake in Waterford on Sunday, June 25. The event features dragon boat races, food and entertainment for the participants and viewers to enjoy. First race begins at 8:35 am and the last race is at 3:30 pm A cancer survivor race is at 10:30 am with a medal and flower ceremony at 10:30 am and 10:45 am All times are dependent on weather. Free for spectators. All proceeds go to Cancer Resource Program and Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise.

MUSIC ON THE LAWN: The popular Sunday evening summer concert series in Tillsonburg kicks of June 25 on the front lawn of Annandale National Historic Site with Blue Sky (Archie and Sean Wright) at 7 pm Bring your lawn chairs. Each week features a different musical artist (weather permitting). Organized by Tillsonburg Historical Society, the weekly concerts run until the end of August. Donations gratefully accepted. Watch for Braided Together – Mark Hasson (July 2), Back to the Fifties (July 9), George Fulop (July 16), Ken Lightheart and the North Shore Ramblers (July 23), Terri Stanhope (July 30) and more in August .

NIGHT CRUISE: Waterford Legion Cruise Night held June 28 starting at 4 pm and running until dusk. Featuring classic cars and trucks.

WINGS AND KARAOKE: Both are available at the Waterford Legion on Friday, June 30. Wings orders will be taken at 4:45 pm for eat-in or take-out. Cost is $12 for wings, $4 for fries and $5 for onion rings. Bring your own bag for takeout. Karaoke with music by JCS will be held from 7-10 pm

JAMBOREE AND DANCE: Held at the Tillsonburg Legion Friday, June 30 from 1-4 pm featuring Ken Lightheart and the Northshore Ramblers. Admission $5 at the door. Everyone welcome.

JULY

BBQ SAUCE: Cultus United Church 2nd annual sausage BBQ to be held Saturday, July 1 at the Lions Pavillion in Port Rowan Harbour. Serving from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Sausage on a bun, choice of condiments, potato chips and pop or water for $10.

FISHING DERBY: Tillsonburg’s 9th annual free Family Fishing Derby is Saturday, July 1, 7 am to 1 pm at Lake Lisgar. Take the bait and join us! Bring your family and friends for a morning of fishing fun, sponsored by Mike and Rosemary Dean. Free grab bags for every participant. Door prizes. Free hot dogs and drinks.

CENOTAPH SERVICE: Tillsonburg Legion Cenotaph Service is at 12 p.m. noon on July 1 in front of the Tillsonburg Town Center mall. Please join Legion members to celebrate Canada Day.

NIGHT CRUISE: Waterford Legion Cruise Night July 5,12, 19 & 26 in parking lot from 4 pm until dusk. Classic cars and motorcycles.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY: Waterford Legion Christmas in July featuring Christmas dinner, shopping and draws will be held July 9 from 4 to 7 pm Tickets are $16 per person and are available at the legion bar.

SIMCOE’S DOWNTOWN FRIDAY NIGHTS: The Downtown Simcoe BIA is holding Downtown Friday Nights on Argyle St. in Simcoe. The next event, Friday, July 7, features children’s programs beginning at 5 pm with Andy The Balloon Guy at 5:30 pm Live music follows at 7 pm with Aged and Mellow followed by Drop Disco at 8 pm Features vendors, great food and great entertainment for the whole family. Admission is free! Future dates July 21, August 4, and August 18.

CLASSIC ROCK: Vintage, ‘Classic Rock with Style’ is playing at the Tillsonburg Legion Saturday, July 15. Doors open at 7 pm Show at 8 pm Tickets $15 each at the Legion. Cash bar. All welcome!

LEGION ANNIVERSARY: Waterford Legion 95th anniversary will be celebrated in the pavilion on July 15. Cost is $15 per person. Food catered, snacks by Kerry’s Eatery available from 2-4 pm Entertainment by Drop Disco from 4-8 pm Tickets available at the legion bar.

DECORATION DAY: For Forestville Cemeteries will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 698 Charlotteville Road 1, Forestville, on Sunday, July 16 at 2 pm Rain or shine. Bring your lawn chair, and umbrella. Guest speaker Bill Terry.

FAMILY FUN DAY: Brownsville Community Hall Board presents Family Fun Day, Saturday, July 22 at the Brownsville Community Center, 10-2. Originals Plus Vendors craft show.

ONGOING

CAR SHOW: The Port Dover Lions Show and Shine car shows featuring feature classic cars, bikes and music will be held Monday evenings at Silver Lake Park from 4 pm to dusk until Sept. 25. Parks is located at 320 St. Patrick Street. For more information contact the club at [email protected].

FRIDAY BIKE NIGHT: Every Friday night this summer (weather permitting) a charity barbecue will be held from 6-9 pm in the Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153 parking lot at 16 Durham Street. All are welcome. No motorcycle? No problem! Come and check out the amazing variety of motorcycles. Grab some food and enjoy some music. A hamburger or hot dog, with pop/water, is $5. T-shirts are $25 and 50-50 tickets and prize draws available. All Friday Bike Night proceeds to Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153.

DIRTY PLANT: Annandale School Plant Sale is back. Open weekdays from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm Proceeds go to support the science program and other learning opportunities at Annandale School in Tillsonburg.

NIGHT CRUISE: Featuring classic cars, trucks and motorbikes held each Wednesday until Sept. 20 from 4 pm until dusk at the Waterford Legion, 223 Nichol St. Clubroom will be open. Event will not be held June 7 or Sept. 6.

CORN HOLE: Head to the Teeterville Legion on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month for a friendly game of cornhole. Registration at 1:45 pm Starting at 2 pm Everyone welcome. Draw for partners. OPEN MIC JAM: Courtland Country Open Mic Jam held the second Sunday of each month of January to June and September to December at the Courtland Community Centre, 272 Main St., Courtland. Music starts at 1 pm Admission is $7 per person. Dinner at 5 pm for $13. All welcome.

NEEDLE ARTS GUILD: Norfolk’s Own Needle Arts Guild meets on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings at the Waterford United Church, 135 Main St. S., Waterford from 7 pm to 9 pm The group also meets every Monday at the church from 10 am to 3:30 pm If you are a stitcher or would like to learn new techniques, please join them. STORYTIME: Preschool storytime for children to six years of age is held Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 am at the Delhi Branch of the Norfolk County Public Library.
