JUNE

OUTDOOR MOVIE: Annandale National Historic Site is showing the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on Friday, June 16 at dusk. Bring your lawnchairs and blankets to watch the free outdoor movie on a 50-foot inflatable screen, starting around 9:20-9:30 pm It’s also a pizza party. Come early (8:30) to purchase pizza by the slice, pop and popcorn to support Annandale Public School’s Kindergarten classes.

TURTLEFEST: Tillsonburg Turtlefest returns Saturday, June 17, starting with the 10 am-3 pm Turtlefest on the Lawn at Annandale National Historic Site. See live turtle and snake displays, listen to turtle stories. Turtle crafts and games. From 12-6 pm, there will be a day-long ‘downtown block party’ on Broadway, including Creative Imaginations at Station Arts Center (12-7), the Fire Guy, Pirate Life, bouncy castles, Carver Kings show, petting zoo , classic car show, puppeteer, and stilt walker. Local talent will be on the stage from 12-6 pm Then it’s headliner Jason Blaine 9 pm and special guest Cory James Mitchell 7:30 Saturday night. PICKEREL DINNER: At Colborne Village United Church (formerly Old Windham) Simcoe, on Friday, June 16. Advance sales tickets for take-out only. Menu includes pickerel, fresh fries, tartar sauce, coleslaw, Harmony roll & butter, apple crisp and a bottle of water. Runs from 4 pm to 6:30 pm Tickets $30/person. Max 200. JAMBOREE AND DANCE: Held at the Tillsonburg Legion Friday, June 16 and Friday, June 30 from 1-4 pm featuring Ken Lightheart and the Northshore Ramblers. Admission $5 at the door. Everyone welcome.

PUB QUIZ NIGHT: Held at the Waterford Legion at 7 pm on Friday, June 16 in the clubroom.

ENTERTAINMENT: At the Simcoe Legion on West Street on Friday, June 16 featuring Lindy Vopnfjord on the patio from 6 to 9 pm Everyone welcome.

SIMCOE’S DOWNTOWN FRIDAY NIGHTS: The Downtown Simcoe BIA is holding six Downtown Friday Nights on Argyle St. in Simcoe. Great food, great entertainment for the whole family. Admission is free. Future dates include June 16, July 7, July 21, August 4, and August 18.

OPEN HOUSE: Open house at New Apostolic Church, 50 Oakwood Ave., Simcoe on June 17 from 10 am to 2 pm Free hot dogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks. Everyone is welcome.

ONE-MAN BAND: In the clubroom at the Simcoe Legion on Friday, June 17 from 7 to 11 pm featuring Mike Thorpe. Admission is $10 per person. Everyone welcome.

ENTERTAINMENT: “Elvis” Dennis Chambers is back at the Tillsonburg Legion on Saturday, June 17 from 1-3 pm Tickets $15 each available at the Legion. Doors open at noon. Cash bar. For more information call 519-842-5281.

BBQ STEAK: Waterford Lions and South Brant Lions annual steak BBQ to be held Saturday, June 17 at Oakland Lions Pavilion, Old Highway 24, Oakland. Starts at 5 pm Tickets are $40 per person. Dinner includes striploin steak, fries, Caesar salad, coleslaw, dinner roll and dessert. Kids meal of hotdog and fries is $10. Entertainment by Pipe Down Band. LYNN RIVER PROBUS CLUB: Retired and semi-retired members enjoy diverse interest groups. Friendship, fellowship and fun are encouraged. Speakers enhance their meetings. Featured speaker for upcoming June meeting will be Norfolk County Mayor Amy Martin who will discuss present status and future plans for the county. INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY: Tillsonburg and District Historical Society will again be celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day at the Soccer Club Wednesday June 21at 4 pm in the pavilion on Attawandaron Way at the Iroquoian Village Site off of Quarter Town Line Road, Tillsonburg. The theme will be recognition of Indigenous veterans and their ancestors and will include participation by Branch 153 Royal Canadian Legion and a presentation by Dr. Jason Pankratz. Local dignitaries’ have been invited. All are invited…bring your friends and family. This is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people.

NIGHT CRUISE: Waterford Legion Cruise Night held June 21 and 28 starting at 4 pm and running until dusk. Featuring classic cars and trucks.

ENTERTAINMENT: Featuring Pipe Down at the Simcoe Legion on West Street on Friday, June 23 from 7-11 pm in the Memorial Hall. Admission is $10 and tickets are available in the club room. Everyone welcome.

TAG DAY: On June 23, the Waterford Volunteer Branch of the Norfolk General Hospital and Nursing home is having its tag day. Please give generously to the volunteers in their blue vests, who will be at Waterford Foodland, Waterford Tim Hortons and the Waterford Post Office.

TOUR OF GARDENS: Tillsonburg Horticultural Society’s Garden Artistry 2023 is Saturday, June 24, from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine. Visit, explore and enjoy local gardens and artists (with a quilters’ surprise). Tickets $15 available at Station Arts Centre, Tillsonburg Garden Gate and Annandale National Historic Site.

WINGS AND KARAOKE: Both are available at the Waterford Legion on Friday, June 30. Wings orders will be taken at 4:45 pm for eat-in or take-out. Cost is $12 for wings, $4 for fries and $5 for onion rings. Bring your own bag for takeout. Karaoke with music by JCS will be held from 7-10 pm

FISHING DERBY: Tillsonburg’s 9th annual free Family Fishing Derby is Saturday, July 1, 7 am to 1 pm at Lake Lisgar. Take the bait and join us! Bring your family and friends for a morning of fishing fun, sponsored by Mike and Rosemary Dean. Free hot dogs and drinks.

ONGOING

CAR SHOW: The Port Dover Lions Show and Shine car shows featuring feature classic cars, bikes and music will be held Monday evenings at Silver Lake Park from 4 pm to dusk until Sept. 25. Parks is located at 320 St. Patrick Street. For more information contact the club at [email protected].

FRIDAY BIKE NIGHT: Every Friday night this summer (weather permitting) a charity barbecue will be held from 6-9 pm in the Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153 parking lot at 16 Durham Street. All are welcome. No motorcycle? No problem! Come and check out the amazing variety of motorcycles. Grab some food and enjoy some music. A hamburger or hot dog, with pop/water, is $5. T-shirts are $25 and 50-50 tickets and prize draws available. All Friday Bike Night proceeds to Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153.

DIRTY PLANT: Annandale School Plant Sale is back. Open weekdays from 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm Proceeds go to support the science program and other learning opportunities at Annandale School in Tillsonburg.

NIGHT CRUISE: Featuring classic cars, trucks and motorbikes held each Wednesday until Sept. 20 from 4 pm until dusk at the Waterford Legion, 223 Nichol St. Clubroom will be open. Event will not be held June 7 or Sept. 6.

CORN HOLE: Head to the Teeterville Legion on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month for a friendly game of cornhole. Registration at 1:45 pm Starting at 2 pm Everyone welcome. Draw for partners. NEEDLE ARTS GUILD: Norfolk’s Own Needle Arts Guild meets on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings at the Waterford United Church, 135 Main St. S., Waterford from 7 pm to 9 pm The group also meets every Monday at the church from 10 am to 3:30 pm If you are a stitcher or would like to learn new techniques, please join them. STORYTIME: Preschool storytime for children to six years of age is held Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 am at the Delhi Branch of the Norfolk County Public Library.
