One of these concerns vehicle placement and can be particularly troublesome for motorists living in smaller towns.

Don’t drive in the middle lane
It is therefore about middle lane driving, something that is common on the stretches in the country with three or more lanes and with a speed limit of over 70 km/h.
The center and left lanes shall only be used for overtaking. After that, you must take the basic position, that is, the lane most to the right in the direction you are driving.
As long as the speed limit is over 70 km/h, you must always pull over to the right.
Exceptions apply in the event of a queue or if the lanes go in different directions.
Riksförbundet M Sweden comments:
-Actually, it’s quite simple – keep to the right as long as you don’t intend to overtake. The rule exists to promote a good flow on the busy roads and to avoid dangerous traffic situations.

A recurring problem
More and more often, the police make targeted investments against middle lane riders. It is mainly a problem on the large three-lane motorways through Stockholm and causes major problems in terms of accessibility and traffic safety.
The reason is quite simple – if a car is in the middle of, for example, a 100-lane road, they also block the innermost lane as you are not allowed to overtake on the inside if the speed limit is over 70 km/h.

Overtaking on the left
You may only overtake on the left side, if a road has several lanes in the same direction, or if the speed limit is 70 km/h or lower.
Overtaking on the inside costs SEK 1,000 in fines.
Driving in the middle lane without reason and for longer periods can result in a 500 kroner fine.
