You can use the apples for this

If you have a lot of apples in the tree, take care of them. There are lots of goodies to make with them and it would be a shame to let them fall into the grass to rot. Go out into the garden, pick a bunch of ripe and nice apples and do:

  • Must
  • Mash
  • Raw juice – can be used in drinks
  • Freeze and make ice cream
  • Pie, cake or muffins
  • Dry and put in muesli
  • It’s extra luxurious when it’s made at home with its very own apples.

That’s why the apples don’t get big

If you want to make must from the apples, the size does not matter. But if you want to be able to eat them directly from the tree, it is of course more desirable to have large and finer apples, so for next season you can learn how to griddle, it reports SVT News Värmland.

Then you sort out the apples on the branches and then measure so that there is at least a fist’s distance between each apple. If the branches are not thinned, the fruit does not get enough room to grow into full-sized, red and juicy apples.

But map thinning has more benefits than that. Among other things, the fruit becomes redder because it is more easily reached by the sunlight as the branches do not become as heavy. In addition, it prevents fungal disease and prevents larvae from spreading from fruit to fruit.

Then the tree must be thinned

According to The National Association of Swedish Gardens is the optimal time to thin in the spring, about three to four weeks after flowering. A rule of thumb is to do it when the apples have grown to the size of walnuts.

Then you optimize the chances of large, juicy and fine apples.
