The Sakaï solar power plant, located 10 kilometers from Bangui in the south of the country, was commissioned on Monday March 27 by the authorities. It is the fruit of the relations of friendship and cooperation between China and the Central African Republic. The work was launched in 2020. The Sakaï solar field currently provides 15 kilowatts of electricity and aims to reduce the electricity supply deficit.

In front of an imposing white sign with red and blue writing, Myriam Wabilo, owner of this Welding workshop, is delighted with this good news for the inhabitants of Bangui and its surroundings : ” We are fine with electricity, we have electricity almost every day. »
Until then, the inhabitants of Bangui and its surroundings benefit from at least nine hours of electricity per day. The authorities are therefore betting on this solar power plant to remedy this. ” We have just inaugurated this plant which will increase all the electricity in Bangui. It will be useful for households, for economic development but also for industrialists. “explains the Minister of Energy, Arthur Bertran Piri.
This project is in addition to the Boali 2 hydroelectric plant and the Bangui thermal power plant. Céline Nganaré is one of the managers of this plant: ” We send the electricity to the level of the general management. If a person wishes to have electricity, he only has to go to the sales department to make the arrangements and we will go and connect it. »
The electricity distribution capacity increases from 60 to 72 megawatts. Nevertheless, the country’s total need is estimated at 250 megawatts.
