The light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, which includes vans, pickups and small trucks, recorded over 1,052,306 new registrations in the EU-EFTA-UK area in the first 6 months of 2024, up approximately 13.0% on the volumes of the first half of 2023. Growth was recorded in all major European markets: +19.3% in Germany, +18.5% in Spain, +16.9% in Italy, +10.5% in France and +4.3% in the United Kingdom. The countries with the highest number of registrations were France with 209,866 new registrations (approximately 20% of the European market), followed by the United Kingdom with 178,210 registrations (16.9% share) and Germany with 151,097 units (14.4% share). In fourth place is Italy with 111,900 new registrations and a 10.6% market share and in fifth place is Spain with 85,595 registrations (8.1% share). The first 5 Top Markets together hold 70.0% of the market (736,668 registrations), while the remaining 30.0% is made up of other countries in the EU-EFTA-UK area.
Trucks >3,500 kg
In the EU-EFTA-UK market, sales of medium-heavy trucks in the first half of 2024 totaled 215,667 registrations, with a slight increase of 2.4% compared to the first half of 2023. Increases were recorded in most of the main markets: +8.1% in Germany, +5.5% in France, +10.4% in Italy. On the other hand, Poland is struggling, with -10.3% of registrations, and the United Kingdom, with -1%. The highest number of registrations was recorded in Germany with 52,417 new registrations (and a market share of 24.3%). Followed by France with 28,124 (13% share), the United Kingdom with 26,472 (12.3% share), Italy with 16,769 (7.8% share) and Spain with 16,249 new registrations and a market share of 7.5%. The first 5 Top Markets make up 64.9% of the market (140,031 registrations) while the remaining countries of the EU-EFTA-UK area, 35.1%.
Trucks =16,000 kg
In the EU-EFTA-UK area, truck sales =16,000 kg in the first half of 2024 amounted to 175,562 units, with a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to the first half of 2023. Germany, in first place in terms of registrations (36,728), recorded a growth of 3% and held 20.9% of the market share. France followed (24,193 registrations) with a growth of 3.8% and a market share of 13.8%. The United Kingdom (19,475 registrations) fell by -7.7% and fell to 11.1% of the share. In fourth place, Italy overtook Poland, with 13,977 registrations, thus reaching a market share of 8%. Poland (13,743 registrations) falls to fifth place with a substantial decrease in sales of 11.8% and a market share of 7.8%. The first 5 Top Markets hold 61.6% of the market (108,116 registrations) while the remaining countries of the EU-EFTA-UK area hold 38.4%.
Bus >3,500 kg
In the first half of 2024, sales of new buses with PPT >3,500 kg increased by 30.2%, with 25,086 vehicles registered; in the same period of 2023, there were 19,272 units. The United Kingdom is the leading country for bus registrations (3,817 registrations and a market share of 15.2% of the EU+EFTA+UK market). Italy follows, with 3,511 units and a 14% share, Germany with 3,141 registrations (market share 12.5%), which grew by 17.8% on the first half of 2023, France with 3,047 (MS 12.1%) and Spain with 2,163 units and a share of 8.6%. Among the five major markets, the United Kingdom is the one that records the greatest growth (+55.4%), together with Italy (+45.3%). These five markets, with 15,679 units, constitute 62.5% of total registrations in the area.
