Combining Blood Pressure Medications With Ibuprofen May Damage Your Kidney

People with high blood pressure who take diuretics and inhibitors of the resin-angiotensin system (RSA) must be careful when taking ibuprofen to calm some type of pain or discomfort, as has been shown by a University of Waterloo study (Canada).

These drugs are prescribed together to treat hypertension and, for its acquisition, it is necessary to have medical prescription. On the contrary, pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, are available in most pharmacies.

According to the study, in which computerized pharmacological assays to model the interactions of the three drugs together and their impact on the kidney, the combination of these three drugs can cause acute kidney injury in certain medical profiles.

This type of trial allows results to be generated more quickly than if clinical trials were carried out on humans.

anita laytonprofessor of applied mathematics at Waterloo and responsible for the research, explained in a statement that this combination of drugs does not affect all people who are taking them, but it does recommends “use caution”.

In this way, and knowing the composition and the way of acting of each medicine, researchers recommend people with hypertension take paracetamolinstead of ibuprofen, when it is necessary to resort to some type of pain reliever.
