Colorful joy and music as the pride train passed through town: “There’s rain and love in the air”

Despite persistent rain and gray clouds, participants in Staare’s annual pride parade lit up the city center with the colors of the rainbow today as thousands of people gathered to celebrate love and openness.

Two of all those gathered were friends Alma Åhrén and Saga Björklund.

– It is as usual in Sweden with rain everywhere, but there is love in the air, says Saga Björklund and laughs.

Anita Olofsson also walked in the parade, with the Sami flag in her hand and a noeon-yellow vest, which marks that she is there as a volunteer.

– I like to help if I can, it’s still an important thing to support I think – everyone’s right to be themselves is regardless of who or what it is.

After about an hour, the parade returned to Pride Park to continue the celebration. Tonight there will be another pride party at Storsjöteatern with performances by the indie band Actred and two-time Sámi Grand Prix finalist and EDM artist Aili.

See the pictures from the train and hear Alma, Saga and Anita tell more about their thoughts on pride in the clip above.
