In the United States, the Supreme Court of the state of Colorado has decided that the former president Donald Trump may participate in next year’s presidential election due to the 2021 congressional invasion.
According to the court decision concerning only the state of Colorado, Trump must be removed from the state’s ballot in the 2024 presidential election.
In its decision, the court relies on the third paragraph of the 14th amendment to the country’s constitution, according to which a person who participated in an uprising or rebellion against the legitimate government of the United States cannot stand for election.
Trump is the first presidential candidate in US history to be found by a court to be ineligible for the White House because of that section of the Constitution.
In addition, the Supreme Court of the state of Colorado considers that Trump’s speech to his supporters before the congressional seizure does not enjoy the section of the First Amendment of the Constitution, which protects freedom of speech.
