Confusing comment from the captain, sidesteping Ville Husso
Husso took responsibility for St. Louis ’defense in nearly half of the regular season and in the playoffs from the third game in the Colorado series.
US goalkeeper for the Blues Jordan Binnington injured in that match by Avalanche striker Nazem Kadrin collided with him. The number one guard in the Binnington series was in the package and the responsibility was solely for Husson.
The Finn fought in the series variously, as in the fourth match the Finn went behind six discs. After a difficult start, Husso played great in the fifth and sixth matches, earning praise from St. Louis fans and players.
O’Reilly also made a couple of comments that pushed the Finnish guard halfway under the bus.
– Overall, this season was disappointing. We are better than what we showed in this series. We could have taken the series to the seventh game, but we lost Binnington … so, we had a good chance of that, O’Reilly said.
– We lost our best player in that (collision). You saw how he played in that match and offered us a chance to win an extra time as well. Husso came in and was awesome, but so …
The captain’s words echoed to Blues and Avalanchenko fans on Twitter as a reprimand in Husson’s direction. Some gave feedback to O’Reilly, highlighting the captain’s poor performance in the final playoffs.
– He throws Husson under the bus when he didn’t get anything done in the last three games. Zero power points and only two shots in them, one stated.
O’Reilly previously sidelined the playoffs for the Blues ’40-year-old club record by scoring in five consecutive playoffs. The captain also took responsibility for the relegation of his team.
– This (fall) goes to my peak too, I should have found a way to elevate our team to play and respond better to losing our goalkeeper, O’Reilly continued.
