Vice President of Colombia Francia Marquez said on Tuesday that he had been the target of an attempted murder. According to Marquez, his security men had found a powerful explosive device on the street near his home, detonated and destroyed it.

Marquez’s security guards found the explosive after receiving a tip about suspicious activity near the vice president’s home. The explosive was made in a plastic bag from, among other things, ammonium nitrate, aluminum powder and nails.

Marquez, 41, is South America’s first black vice president. There was also an attempt to assassinate him in 2019, when he was still an environmental activist.

President of Colombia Gustavo Petro attempted murder last summer. Then fire was opened against Petro’s convoy in the northeastern parts of the country.
