Nicolas Petro, a politician in the Atlantico region, allegedly took money from drug traffickers to finance his father’s election campaign.
REJECTED CLAIMS
Nicolas Petro denied the allegations and welcomed the investigation.
Nicolas Petro’s ex-wife was also arrested as part of the investigation.
President Petro, the country’s first left-wing leader, denied that Colombia did not take money from drug traffickers and ordered prosecutors to investigate his son in March.
The Colombian leader, who shared on his social media account on Saturday, stated that his son’s imprisonment was painful for him; however, Attorney General Margarita Cabello said she would not interfere with Blanco’s investigation.
Nicolas and his ex-wife, Daysuris del Carmen Vásquez, were transferred from the Caribbean coast to Bogotá, the Colombian capital.
Speaking to local media earlier, Vásquez claimed that his ex-wife received large sums of money from drug cartels during Gustavo Petro’s presidential election last year.
