Colombia honors missing search dog with medal

Colombian President Gustavo Petro awarded 86 medals to soldiers, indigenous volunteers and officials involved in the search for the four missing children in the Amazon, who were found alive 40 days after a plane crash.

The children, aged between one and thirteen, were found on June 9 and are still recovering in a military hospital in Bogotá.

— The military with their satellites and the indigenous people with their brews – including ayahuasca that invokes the spirits of the jungle – found life together, said Petro.

The dog Wilson was also honored by the president with a medal. But it happened in his absence and instead his mother Drugia had to receive the honor.

Wilson joined the search effort and took off after receiving a lead on May 18. When the dog handlers followed him, they were led to the area where the children were eventually found. But Wilson has not been found, although soldiers are still out in the jungle looking for him.
