Colombia evacuates villages near volcano

The volcano, which is located in the Colombian Andes and consists of three craters, has had a clear increase in seismic activity according to authorities. The evacuation comes as geological experts warn of a “likely eruption in the coming days or weeks”.

The villages in question are closer than 15 kilometers from the volcano’s largest crater.

More than 25,000 people died in the Nevado del Ruiz eruption in 1985. The eruption was one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in modern times.
