In Colombia, the toll of violence in the Catatumbo region is increasing. According to local authorities, more than 80 people have been killed, mainly civilians, and more than 5,000 have fled since the start of the offensive led by the National Liberation Army (ELN) which wants to ensure control of the region. The government, which suspended ongoing peace negotiations with this guerrilla on January 17, is not talking about resuming them.
