A driver backed hard into a utility pole, then tried to flee the scene as damaged parts of the vehicle sparked along the roadway early Saturday in Sarnia, police say.
The incident happened around 1:40 am at Queen and Confederation streets, police said.

Police stopped the vehicle, smelled alcohol and observed signs of impairment, arrested the driver and brought them to the Sarnia police station for breath samples, police said, adding testing revealed a blood-alcohol concentration two times the legal limit.
A 25-year-old female has been charged with impaired driving, police said.
