Colleagues’ strong words about Mikael Renberg after his unexpected resignation to SVT: “Hard to understand”

Mikael Renberg surprised the entire Swedish people.
When he chose to leave SVT in the middle of a live broadcast.
Now his television colleagues are reacting with strong words after the dismissal.

On Sunday evening, both the 2023 hockey WC and a long SVT career came to an end. On the WC’s final broadcast, the popular TV expert revealed Mikael Renberg that it will be his very last participation in SVT.

Renberg ends

After a full 15 years as a hockey expert in SVT, he has now decided to leave the television box. Renberg has made an awful lot of broadcasts of the hockey WC, JVM and the program “Hockeykväll” over the years, but now it is time to move on.

The 51-year-old himself had a long and successful career as a player with many games in the NHL and part of the legendary chain “Legion of Doom” in the Philadelphia Flyers. The big highlight during his career was the WC gold in 1998 with Tre Kronor.
– It feels great. It has been a privilege to work for SVT, with all the nice employees. I can’t begin to count them, because there are so many, says Renberg himself in the SVT broadcast.
– It started with Marie Lehmann and Niklas Wikegård and now we are sitting here in my conclusion. But everything has a beginning and an end. And this is my end.

Beautiful words

It was in 2008 that Mikael Renberg stepped in as a new TV expert at SVT and since then he has been a highly valued TV watcher and liked by his colleagues. Now the other SVT profiles open up about the strong feelings after “Mike’s” departure.
“Mikael Renberg ended his career as an expert commentator today. A highly valued employee, wonderful person has thus made his last(?) broadcast. We have had many nice moments together and commented on a number of fun matches over the years, not least the JVM gold in 2012. Thank you Micke!”, writes the couple horse Chris Harenstam on Twitter.
“We have worked together since 2011. For 12 years! But this year’s WC tournament was the last. Now Micke stops. What a trip we had! Thanks for all the fun years,” writes the colleague Marie Lehmann on Twitter.

Even those who did not work as closely with Renberg want to thank the hockey profile for long and faithful service.
“Have encountered Micke Renberg at work now and then for 15 years. He is so damn humble. Hard to understand that the dude was part of the world’s best hockey chain for several years, didn’t become a diva for it. Secure Pitebo and a real team player. And always sharp in the studio. Hats off!”, writes the SVT commentator Ola Branholm on Twitter.
“The bear is leaving us now. He is done with me and SVT. It got emotional. But life goes on. Good luck with everything!”, writes Dusan Umicevic on Twitter.
