Coked sharks worry scientists

▸ The researchers believe that it is common for sharks off the coast of Rio de Janeiro to have high levels of cocaine in them, 100 times more than what was previously observed in marine animals. How it got into it can both be due to cocaine being dumped into the water by smugglers, but the biggest source is probably the cocaine that comes out of people who use cocaine, as most treatment plants have difficulty filtering out cocaine residues effectively. Now they want to do further research into the phenomenon to determine whether the cocaine content is harmful to the sharks or to the people who eat them.
