Code yellow due to storm Dudley what can you expect

PROVINCE OF UTRECHT – The third storm of the year is coming. After Corrie on January 31 and an unnamed storm on February 6, we’ll be dealing with Dudley later today. So be careful, but will it really be that intense in our region? The KNMI does take this into account, because code yellow has already been issued for the entire country and it may still be scaling up.

It will be a while before Dudley reaches our country. It is cloudy this morning and it will rain for a while, Weerplaza says. During the morning it becomes dry from the west and the sun sometimes breaks through. It is expected to be particularly mild with 12 to 14 degrees.

It will be showery late in the afternoon and tonight. The wind will then pick up strongly and on the west coast it can come to a south-westerly storm with a chance of very strong gusts of more than 100 kilometers per hour. Later this evening and tonight there is also a great chance of heavy wind gusts of 75 to 100 kilometers per hour.

Tomorrow it will still be quite windy during the morning rush hour. The heaviest gusts of wind are expected during showers. “So pay attention when you hit the road tomorrow,” says meteorologist Rico Schröder of Weeronline. “Road traffic has to take into account considerable nuisance, especially on roads that run from north to south because the wind blows across the road there. Empty trucks and trailers can easily fall over during heavy gusts of wind. You can also go by bike or on foot. these wind speeds fall. It is also advisable to watch out for blowing roof tiles and falling branches.”

Eunice and spring tide approaching

At the end of the afternoon and tomorrow evening it all calms down again and the wind decreases in strength. But the peace may be short-lived. Eunice knocks on Friday again and it could be much more violent with wind force 10 and in the north and west and very heavy gusts of wind up to more than 100 kilometers per hour.

In addition, it is spring tide on Friday. “As a result, there is an extra high water level during high tide. In combination with storms from the west to northwest, the water is pushed up extra. Quays and ports therefore run the risk of being flooded by storm surge.”

“We can handle the expected rainfall, between 26 and 30 mm, very well. So we’re not too worried about that,” says Jelmer Krom of the Rivierenland Water Board. “The water will rise slightly due to the westerly wind. But we are not doing much on the river now.” The water board does look at inner-dike and vulnerable water levels. In view of the storm, the trees along the polder roads in, among other places, Vijfheerenlanden are being monitored. This also falls under the water board.

The storms will pass by the weekend, but it will remain turbulent with a chance of heavy wind gusts. “As it stands, storm force 9 is not expected again,” said meteorologist Rico Schröder of Weeronline.
