Call of Duty Warzone is getting a new map “Urzikistan” that conveys Verdansk vibes. Additionally, two popular Resurgence cards are returning in 2024.
What kind of new map is this? After the release of Modern Warfare 3, Warzone will receive a new map called Urzikistan, which will be published as part of Season 1 in December 2023.
Urzikistan is said to be a metropolis in Western Asia that borders the Black Sea and is stylistically reminiscent of a major Russian city. The map also has 11 different districts and POIs (Points of Interest):
Urzikistan is also a city map that is characterized primarily by a large number of buildings, streets and some waterways.
What do the players say about the new map? On social networks, some CoD fans are already talking about Urzikistan conveying a Verdansk feeling.
Verdansk was the first map that Warzone 2020 started with and was extremely well received by players. Nevertheless, over time the map was removed from the Warzone map pool and replaced by Caldera.
In general, Urzikistan seems to leave a solid first impression on players:

Which maps are returning? To the delight of some Warzone fans, Activision announced that the Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep maps will be returning to Warzone in 2024 for Resurgence mode.
Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep are both rather small maps in which the combat distance is shorter and the pace is faster than on the larger maps. In addition to Vondel and Ashika Island, the Resurgence map pool will grow to four maps over the next year.
How do players react to the return of the cards? Although there are a few players who criticize the “recycling” of old maps (via Reddit), many players are happy about the return of the maps.
A post sharing Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep’s comeback on Reddit garnered over 600 upvotes within a day (as of October 6th). Resurgence players in particular seem to be looking forward to the cards:
Overall, however, one has to say that the mood in the CoD community remains divided. Some like the Verdansk feel of the new map and the return of the Resurgence maps, others are sharply critical.
Even before the “CoD Next” event on October 5th and the start of the open beta, there were a few professionals and streamers who spoke of a successful return of the popular shooter series:
