YouTuber TrueGameData got to the bottom of a rumor that the weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and in the shooter’s multiplayer have different damage values. In fact, his tests show that a weapon in the war zone does significantly more damage.
What did TrueGameData test? Rumors about different weapon damage values in the Warzone and in multiplayer have been around for some time. Again and again, parts of the community speculated that the developers were secretly tweaking the damage values or hit detection.
For example, popular streamer TimTheTatman believes that better players are at a disadvantage when it comes to shooting.
The Warzone expert TrueGameData got to the bottom of one of these rumors. He tested different weapons and their damage in the warzone and the results of a pistol surprised him.
The “Resurgence Mode” comes back to the Warzone with Season 2 and there is also a new small map. You can watch the trailer for “Ashika Island” here:
Test confirms different damage profiles
What do the tests show? TrueGameData first tested the X12 and its effect on opponents with armor plates. This is the weapon you have at your disposal when entering the Warzone.
The damage of each weapon in Call of Duty can be divided into different damage areas. Basically, a weapon deals less damage the farther you are from your target.
At the maximum range for pistols, i.e. all ranges greater than 15 meters, the X12 deals 41 damage with a chest hit and 2 armor plates in the war zone. At ranges from 15 to 9 meters it deals 52 damage and at ranges shorter than 9 meters it deals 62 damage. For comparison: 62 damage corresponds to a headshot with the X12 in multiplayer.
The values are therefore significantly higher than in multiplayer. There, the pistol only deals 29 damage at maximum range, 36 damage at medium range, and 42 damage at close range. The tests also showed that with the X12 it doesn’t matter if your opponent has armor plates equipped. The damage values remained unchanged in this case.

It’s not just about guns
Do other weapons also deal more damage? In addition to the X12 pistol, the YouTuber also tested a handful of other weapons. According to him, there was not enough time for more. Finally, the tests had to take place under real conditions in a public Warzone round.
Although the tests turned out to be extremely difficult, the expert was able to test a submachine gun, an LMG and an assault rifle. The damage of the Icarus, VEL and TAQ-56 matched the damage profile of the weapons in multiplayer.
Aside from the X12, only the M4, another popular assault rifle, behaved differently in multiplayer. This weapon did 4 more points of damage on average in the Warzone. However, the deviation with the M4 is much smaller than with the pistol.
TrueGameData therefore assumes that unknown factors play a role here.
Weapon stronger in Warzone to make firefights fairer
Why is a pistol stronger in the Warzone? In the comments below the TrueGameData YouTube video, the community discusses the results of the test. Many viewers believe that the changed damage values of the X12 are due to the fact that players start the war zone with this weapon.
The developers would have strengthened the pistol to help players. The pistol does more damage to give players a chance against enemies who have already picked up a better weapon from the ground.
By the way, there were already some deviations in the damage values in Warzone 1 – assault rifles had a third damage area, so they caused less damage at a distance than in multiplayer. Otherwise, however, the profiles were the same.

Although the theory from the community sounds plausible, there is no official confirmation from the developers.
In any case, the content creator TrueGameData is of the opinion that there could be other weapons whose damage profile differs from multiplayer. However, this requires further tests.
