Call of Duty sees itself as a service game these days and regularly brings free, new content to its current games. Next up is Season 2 for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 – it starts on February 15th, which is later than expected.
Here you will find all the most important information about the next season:
It is already known that Warzone 2 will get a new, small map for Warzone 1’s revival mode. However, there is still no roadmap and no trailer for Season 2. As soon as there is new information, we will update the article accordingly.
Please note: Some information in the article is based on unconfirmed leaks. You should treat this information with caution – development processes are dynamic and certain things are subject to change. In addition, there is rarely a guarantee that leaked information is really real.
CoD MW2 & Warzone 2: Season 2 – Release & Update
When does Season 2 start? Call of Duty has already confirmed: Season 2 will go online on February 15, 2023.
How big is the download? It’s difficult to say with the current information. Since a new Warzone map is coming, a slightly larger download of around 10 GB could be pending, at least for the Battle Royale.
Is there a preload? There is no information about this yet, but the last seasons have always offered a preload – even if only shortly before the start.
What’s in Season 2? We briefly list the individual content points, divided into leak and official:
However, even with the official content, it is unclear what will be available at the start of the season and which parts of it will only come in the mid-season. However, the ranked mode for CoD MW2 is planned for the start of the season.
Below we break down the individual points for you.
CoD MW2: Season 2 – Content
What does Season 2 bring for CoD MW2? The usual season package of new maps and modes is already certain. We expect to start with 2 new 6vs6 maps, but one of them may be a remake of an earlier CoD map.
Leaks claim that the “Castle” map is coming and that Season 2 will have a Japanese-inspired theme. The map was already available in CoD: Vanguard (2021), but originally came in CoD: World at War (2008).
The PvE components of CoD MW2 should also get fresh content. A new PvE raid is possible, as well as smaller missions for the SpecOps mode.
You can also count on the ranked mode right at the start of the season. Unlike the “Free Matchmaking”, the focus in ranked mode is on the skill of the players – victories let you rise, defeats drop. You can check out how that happened in CoD: Vanguard here.
In the trailer you get an impression of the new PvE raids:
CoD Warzone 2: Season 2 – Content
What does Season 2 bring to Warzone 2? A new, small map and the resurgence/revival mode are already certain. Leaks say that on this small map you will also find the castle from the CoD map of the same name.
In addition, you should already see the map on the horizon of the current Warzone map:
A small map along with the revival modes are among the biggest community requests in Warzone 2. However, it is possible that the two features will not come at the same time.
Furthermore, changes to the Gulag, looting and loadouts were announced. This has been confirmed by the developers, but has not yet been specified.
Leaks also allow loot money to return to the Warzone. The mode was part of Warzone 1 and was a good way to level up weapons, collect kills and switch off – without the Battle Royale pressure.
The DMZ mode should also receive new content. New faction missions, possibly another area. However, since this is the first start of the season for DMZ mode, it is currently difficult to say in which direction this will continue.

CoD MW2 & Warzone 2: Season 2 – Battle Pass / Weapons
When does the Battle Pass start? Along with Season 2 on February 15th. Until then, you can continue to play the Season 1 pass.
You exchange game time for exclusive cosmetics that are only available via the respective Battle Pass of a season. The pass costs 1,100 CoD points (around €10) and lets you earn over 100 items, including cosmetics, but also XP tokens or CoD points.
There are also a few free tiers that all players can unlock, including the new weapons. But most levels are behind the 1,100 CoD Points paywall.
But the system has also undergone a few changes, which we explain in more detail here: The Battle Pass from CoD MW2 & Warzone 2 is now a map – with more choices and more CoD points.
What’s in the Battle Pass? Each Battle Pass offers you different items. But here is an overview of the item types that can be included in the pass:
As soon as the specific items are known, you will find more about them here on MeinMMO.
Who will be the poster boy / poster girl of season 2? Each season comes with a theme and its own operator that drives the story forward.
Leaks showed a Japanese theme with two operators that have not previously existed in CoD MW2 and Warzone 2. This is where “Ronin” based on YouTuber Tu Lam could come into play.
Which weapons are new? Here, too, there are already leaks, but no promises yet. Accordingly, a shotgun (AA-12 / Vepr-12) and the crossbow could come into play.
That was our big overview of Season 2. If you have any questions or opinions, then put them in the comments. As soon as there is new information, we will update the article promptly.
