The release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was not entirely smooth. You can feel that especially on Steam. After almost 16,000 reviews, the CoD shooter ends up with a meager 60% approval – “Balanced”. We show you what’s going on on Steam on MeinMMO.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out and back on Steam at the same time. World War II (2017) was the last CoD to celebrate its release on Steam, after which the franchise disappeared from the platform for the time being.
If you look at some of the reviews on Steam for the new CoD MW2, then some players would probably not be angry if it hadn’t appeared on the platform. Because some of them are devastating to malicious.

How are the ratings on Steam? At the time of writing, there are 15,806 reviews in MW2’s guest book on Stream. 60% of these are positive, resulting in a Balanced on Steam.
Although most ratings are positive, a value of 60% is already considered rather bad. Battlefield 2042 got it much worse back then. As a maximum number of players, MW2 has reached almost 250,000 players at the same time.

What do players like? Among the positive reviews, there is a lot of praise for the Modern Warfare 2 campaign. The graphics, for example, are praised, and the almost photo-realistic surroundings in Amsterdam are often a topic.
But the story and the overall structure of the campaign are also well received. Thanks to the generous early access, the story could be played 8 days before the official release – this left a positive impression on many players, which they are happy to share in the reviews.
For example, the evaluation by the user “PSycho” (via steam.com) was exciting. The user writes that it was the very first full-price game for him and that it would have been worth it just because of the campaign: “It’s been a long time since I’ve really played through a single player, but it captivated me!”.
However, if you take a look at the negative reviews, it quickly becomes clear from which direction the wind is blowing – because as good as the campaign is, the statements about multiplayer on Steam are so bad.

Why are so many players complaining? The release of multiplayer went badly, especially for team players. Once you sat in a lobby with 3 or more players, Modern Warfare 2 was extremely unstable.
The reports describe that often at least one player from the group is thrown out and therefore does not take part in the match. In addition, there are apparently constant crashes and still images during the game search.
There are some statements like this from user TTV:ray6696 (via steam.com): “Wouldn’t recommend it unless you can play 4 in a party without at least one getting kicked out by a crash”.
Above all, the stability problems affect gamers. Again and again you can read that the game crashes when you play in a party. A user simply calls MW2 “Crash Simulator 2022”.
When it comes to gameplay-related topics, it’s more of a balance – the focus of the negative reviews is clearly on the condition shortly after release.
Are the developers working on it? Yes. A few hours after the release, the developers have confirmed that there is an issue with game crashes related to player parties.
This morning (October 29th), the developers have already rolled out a first update to the server to address the stability issues.
