CoD MW2 disabled feature because it probably caused crashes – players don’t want it back

In CoD MW2, players struggle with shooter crashes. Now the developers have disabled a feature to investigate the issue. However, some players don’t want it back even after fixing the issue.

A few days after the release, CoD MW2 is already struggling with criticism. Players on Steam call CoD MW2 a “Crashing Simulator”. Fans of the series also report on reddit that the game crashes very often.

User u/WonderfulBid4989 writes in a post: “The number of crashes on the PC is unacceptable. […] We weren’t able to play more than 2 games in a row with a group of 6 people (via reddit).”

u/WonderfulBid4989 is obviously not alone with the problem – the post collected over 2,800 upvotes and 816 comments (as of October 31, 2022). User a_cristian_dude also agrees, adding in the comments: “I’m literally waiting in the lobby while we all crash one by one trying to join the game.”

Infinity Ward disables weapon customization feature

What did the developers do? In a statement on Twitter on October 29, Infinity Ward, the developer studio behind CoD MW2, announced the deactivation of attachment tuning. This feature probably leads to problems and could be partly responsible for the crashes of the shooter.

The developers therefore want to investigate game crashes for players with 5 customized weapon attachments/attachments. Also, they say you need to unequip and re-equip custom attachments to use your loadout.

You can read the full statement here:

We are disabling attachment tuning until further notice to investigate crashes from players with 5 tuned attachments. If you currently have a custom attachment equipped, you will need to detach and re-equip it to use your loadout.

However, this statement does not reveal whether there are other possible reasons for the game crashing.

In this trailer, CoD presented what possibilities the weapon smith can offer if it works:

“If we leave that out, it’s a better game”

How are players reacting to the deactivation? There are some players on Twitter who comment on the deactivation. Again and again it is read that they have fun with the game and the feature should remain deactivated.

  • Mr_McCarter14 via Twitter: “Take it [das Attachment-Tuning] completely out because nobody asked for it.”
  • NasN2O via Twitter: “I was discussing with my IRL friends that it [das Attachment-Tuning] would somehow ruin the game. Making the game too complicated only makes CoD worse.”
  • blakecissel via Twitter: “I’m enjoying the game at the moment but honestly if we do [Attachment-Tuning] leave it out, it’s a better game.”
  • What else do the players say about CoD MW2? The latest offshoot of the CoD series already knows how to convince or annoy players at the beginning of its life cycle.

While the lack of a hardcore mode or the benefits for PlayStation players aren’t as well received, the changed movement and the return of the nuke are generating positive reactions.
